Today's Listening: A terrifying transcription for guitar

This is Kazuhito Yamashita playing his transcription of Pictures at an Exhibition by Mussorgsky for solo guitar. Yes, I know, it is impossible. But I saw him play it in Toronto in the 80s so, obviously not. I even used to own a copy of his transcription, published in Japan.

It takes me back to all the stuff Matanya Ophee wrote over the years about Yamashita and how what he achieved has forced the rest of us guitarists to reconsider what is actually "impossible" on the guitar and what is impossible for people who aren't Katzuhito Yamashita. :)

ouch, sorry about the misspelling. For folks who can find the CD of Pictures and Firebird it is so very much worth your time!
