My New Favorite Violinist

Is Kristóf Baráti and he has a new album of the complete Violin Concertos by Mozart. Is this a thing now for up and coming artists to do integral sets instead of albums of bon-bons? Seems to be. The last album I heard of Baráti was the complete music for solo violin by Bach. And Igor Levit has been putting out integral double album sets: the Beethoven late sonatas, the Bach Partitas, three massive sets of variations and so on. Oh, and he just released the complete Beethoven piano sonatas.

In any case, here are the Mozart concertos. What a lovely sound!

Recording complete works has a certain cachet about it, rather than releasing an album of tidbits and random movements, like a greatest hits album or a recital. It is better to have the work the way it was intended to be listened to, especially if the label wants people to fork out the cash for the product. As a longtime collector of CDs, this is a good thing!

I agree entirely and I am eagerly awaiting the complete toccatas of Giovanni Girolamo Kapsperger. All kidding aside, this really is one of the great boons of the CD in that you can get an integral collection in a manageable box. I guess, in the age of streaming, it is even more manageable.
