ah, I like the Hindemith harp sonata. Glad to see that not as many people hate playing his music as the people who know of Hindemith and don't like him might suggest. :)
Per our discussion of the Kennedy Center in Washington DC I took the liberty of visiting their site. So here is how they are handling the lockdown:
Couch Concerts - Live!
Introducing our NEW series of live performances streamed to you.
It is in times like these that we need artists most. We've lined up talented artists to perform their work and help us inspire, grieve, heal, and move forward as a nation.
TODAY AT 4 P.M. ET: Jazz, Hip Hop, and R&B Artists Kokayi + Oh He Dead
Who needs Hilary Hahn or Lord forbid the orchestra we tried to lay off?
They are so obtuse that they don't even see the irony of listing Oh He Dead with their tripe about "help us inspire, grieve heal blah blah blah". Isn't it obvious they would ditch their orchestra in a heartbeat if no one threw a hissy. They would bring in a visiting orchestra 6 times a year and be done with it. Unfortunately they will make me a prophet with my observation they will relable pop music as high art. I think we are seeing your point exactly on the widening divide between the US and Europe.
Every time I go to Europe it is underlined for me that they take classical music quite seriously. And every time I come back, I see that in North America, they really don't.

ReplyDeleteYes, I thought it was quite nice as well and I'm not really a Hindemith fan. He writes well for the harp.

Mmmm, yes, more jazz, hip hop and R&B is just what we need. But is this what the Kennedy Centre should be supporting?

ReplyDeleteHahn's on a sabbatical year anyway so we shouldn't expect her to play concerts. :)
