Masterpieces of Music: Antonio Vivaldi

My march through the corridors of music history now leads me to Vivaldi, but way back in July I put up one of my evaluative "The Case of ..." posts on him in which I talk about him and his influence on Bach. All I left out were his dates: born 1678, died 1741, so just a bit older than Bach. Here is a portrait of Vivaldi:
