I wish those arguing for the canonic revisions would focus more on celebrating the modern art from a great variety of voices, and championing great art _now_ regardless of where it comes from.

I'm worried about canon in general being dangerous to 'classical' music as a genre...so many treat it as a museum piece and not a living art form with terrifyingly great examples from the past (even if it is on life support at times :) ).Andrew Rnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8827040061563065922.post-8178159505447466102016-06-30T09:09:00.656-05:002016-06-30T09:09:00.656-05:00Yep, nothing I want to argue with there, Ken.Yep, nothing I want to argue with there, Ken.Bryan Townsendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09482696991279345516noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8827040061563065922.post-86802868038564812952016-06-30T08:54:08.750-05:002016-06-30T08:54:08.750-05:00I have found Élisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre...I have found Élisabeth-Claude Jacquet de la Guerre's music quite good from the time that Pandora randomly selected some for me. I (not being a native French speaker) find the name rather amusing: "War Jacket"? Obviously most great European artists are going to be dead white guys. Lifetimes are limited; most of European history has been dominated by white guys (with notable exceptions like Queen Elizabeth I and the Brontë sisters. But perhaps we can stop the conservative vs. Marxist (anything to the left of William F. Buckley being communist, of course) bickering and simply stick to the facts: European history has been dominated by white males (with exceptions), but in the 21st century in our more diverse modern culture there are exceptional artists of all races and both sexes (I assume there are two), gay and straight, "conservative" and "liberal", and we can be thankful for our modern diversity.Ken F.https://www.blogger.com/profile/08296737421194767997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8827040061563065922.post-30073910753729996072016-06-29T21:34:50.759-05:002016-06-29T21:34:50.759-05:00Thanks, and welcome to the Music Salon. Thanks, and welcome to the Music Salon.Bryan Townsendhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09482696991279345516noreply@blogger.com
